Year 3

Welcome to the Year 3 Class Page

Mrs Oldham and Mr Lee teach in Year 3

A child in Year 3 will experience their first year of lower Key Stage 2. We build upon the experiences and learning the children bring with them from Key Stage 1, and with a careful blend of support and increasing independence over the year, we aim to promote each child’s sense of responsibility as a learner.

We follow a broad and balanced curriculum in Year 3, with a strong emphasis on linking English and Mathematics to practical experience, to learning in other curricular areas and to children’s lives. The children have regular lessons in English, Mathematics, Science, Computing and P.E. There are also age-appropriate lessons in P.S.H.E. and health and relationship education. Other subjects such as History, Geography, Art, Design Technology, French and RE are taught in blocks throughout the year. This year the children in Year 3 will study subjects such as the Stone Age to the Iron Age, Europe, Romans, volcanoes, famous artists and make mechanical posters.  Year 3 also offers children their first opportunity to go on a residential trip.

The home-school link remains a critically important element in supporting children’s progress in English and Mathematics, with weekly homework set for these subjects. Sometimes additional homework in other subjects is also given.
